There are No Doctors & Medical Professionals
In a typical sober house, you will not find any medical professionals like psychiatrists, clinicians, or general physicians. In a rehab center or even a detox center, there will be strict rule you need to follow. You will have a tight schedule filled with treatments and therapies you need to attend throughout your stay. Here in the sober house, there are no such timetables to keep up.
You Won’t Get Any Medicines or Treatments
If there are no medical professionals in the sober homes, obviously there won’t be any medicines or treatments involved during your stay. If in case you had attended therapy before entering the sober home, you can follow up on those medications and exercises. But otherwise you are free as a songbird. You can roam around the center, make friends with other participants, chat, and enjoy your life. You can have all the fun as long as you keep your mind off drugs.
You Will Only Get Peer Support at a Sobriety Home
As for who will be accountable during your stay, there will be a peer support specialist assigned to your personal care. This specialist will monitor your sobriety progress continuously and keep you informed of your progress. They will also look out for any signs of relapse you may show, and give you necessary inputs for you to come out of them. You can also seek support from your fellow participants to encourage you to get sober. In turn, you can assist them get sober by helping them during their times of crisis.
Not Suitable for People with Chronic Addictions
Before you get all excited and join a sober home for your addictions, you need to make sure you are facing only mild addictions and a few days away from drugs can set you straight. These homes are not suitable for people with severe addictions. This is because severe addictions can cause complications in people when they suddenly stop taking drugs. This is why a rehab center or a detox center is necessary to handle patients with severe addictions. In these centers you will find the necessary medications and treatments to deal with withdrawal symptoms. So, if you are a person suffering from severe addiction issues, make sure to get urgent care in a rehab center first and then come to the sober home. Otherwise, it could elongate your recovery period by a huge margin.
